Dr. Leland Davis has been with Reelfoot Animal Hospital since long before it was named as such. Growing up in Union City, Tennessee as a veterinarian’s son, he would ride along with his father, Dr. George Davis, to farm calls and would help him out in the clinic. Leland graduated from Union City High School in 1977, and went on to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin for three years. He was then accepted to the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated in 1983.
He returned to the Obion County area where he and his wife, Tajuana, have remained since. The Davis family has grown to include a son, Dr. Matthew Davis and his wife, Sloane, as well as a daughter, Amy Davis McAdoo and her husband, Will. He and Tajuana also have six grandchildren.
Dr. Davis is a member of AVMA, TVMA, and the Society of Theriogenology. He has a passion for doing specialized and difficult surgeries as well as performing reproductive medicine.
When he is not busy in the clinic, he enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, and being outdoors. He is a member of the Tennessee River Hunting Retriever Club where he enjoys training and doing field trials with his dogs. But his greatest passion is spending time with his wonderful grandkids. Over forty years have passed since Dr. Leland Davis joined the practice of Davis and Buckles. The building and the name have both changed, but one thing has not: the love of caring for animals. Witnessing the passion that Dr. George Davis showed while caring and treating for animals led Dr. Leland Davis to his follow his own ambition of becoming a veterinarian. The legacy left by the elder Dr. Davis when he passed away 1991, has since been carried on by his son who says that he tries every day to be the veterinarian his father would want him to be.
